Associate Professor Scott White (MBBS PhD FRANZCOG CMFM)

 

Scott White is Associate Professor of Obstetrics at The University of Western Australia and Consultant in Maternal Fetal Medicine at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth, Western Australia. His clinical work involves managing complex pregnancies, with a particular focus on preterm birth prevention, prenatal diagnosis, fetal surgery, and care of couples with previous pregnancy and neonatal losses. Scott chairs the Mortality Review Committee of the Women and Newborn Health Service, Western Australia's largest maternity service, and is a longstanding member of the Western Australian Perinatal and Infant Mortality Committee where he provides expertise in the investigation of perinatal deaths.

 

Scott has an active research program in the perinatal space. His PhD investigated the role of genetic variation in the link between abnormal fetal growth and adult metabolic disease. His current research priorities are the prediction and prevention of preterm birth, perinatal epidemiology with a particular focus on stillbirth in Aboriginal populations, and clinical trials in obstetrics. Scott is a founding member of the executive committee of the Australian Preterm Birth Prevention Alliance and has a key role in the National Preterm Birth Prevention Collaborative. He is Co-Chair of the National Evidence Implementation Steering Committee of the Stillbirth Centre of Research Excellence. Scott has senior roles at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, including Chair of the Women's Health Committee. He is current Editor-in-Chief of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
